England women are poised to give a Test debut to a distant relative of one of the voices of cricket.
Emily Arlott has come out of the blue to be included in England’s 17-strong squad to face India in their first Test in two years at Bristol next week.
The fast bowler believes there is a family link with legendary broadcaster and writer John Arlott.

‘It’s never been confirmed but I’m pretty sure there’s a connection as a lot of my family are from Hampshire,’ said Arlott, 23.
‘We’ve got a couple of his books at home and we’re well aware of him. We’ve just never looked into the family tie.’
Arlott, who took a hat-trick for Central Sparks in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy at the weekend, added: ‘I’ve gone under the radar a bit just playing county cricket and I don’t think anybody had really heard of me before this season.
‘I’m one of the first who has been picked for England through the RHF Trophy but hopefully I won’t be the last.’
