Valencia chief Peter Lim launches a scathing attack on the LaLiga strugglers’ supporters

Valencia chief Peter Lim has explosively hit out at the supporters of the club who are not happy with his ownership and accused them of wishful thinking.

The unpopular Lim, who has been a majority shareholder at the Mestalla since 2014, has faced growing calls to leave from the fanbase with the LaLiga outfit struggling at the wrong end of the table.

A demonstration is even planned for today, which will see furious followers of the club march to the stadium, but Lim is adamant that those who are calling for his head would do a worse job than him.

‘They’re trying to make sure we don’t sell the club to anyone other than them,’ Lim told the Financial Times.

‘These people argue, “we’re Valencianos, we know the club”, but with the Valencianos they went bankrupt, right?

‘I don’t want to belittle the club, it’s 102 years old. They’ve never won the Champions League and want to win it at all costs. They’ve got birds in their heads.’

According to Forbes, Lim is one of the richest businessmen in Singapore and is worth $2.7billion (£1.9bn). His fortune has allowed him to invest heavily in several football teams around the world.

In the same interview, the 67-year-old revealed that he has no plans to sell Valencia and believes the club is now worth more than the €100m (£87m) figure he splashed out to take control in 2014.

The chaos on and off the field has resulted in boss Javi Gracia being axed and Lim’s running of the club from top to bottom coming under fresh scrutiny.

Particular ire from supporters is centred around the incomplete construction of their new home ground, which lies half-complete after building work was halted over a decade ago following a financial crisis.

Lim has also shared disagreements with former members of the Valencia hierarchy.

Amadeo Salvo, now the president of Ibiza, penned a stern message accusing Lim of not understanding the history of the club.

Openly sharing his disgust, Salvo said, ‘like any Valencian player I observe that the contempt for our club is increasing every day.’

He added: ‘After your unacceptable statements in the Financial Times you have filled my glass with deep indignation.

‘They reflect your lack of humanity and ignorance and love for your club. Only a person like you could go so far as to express that the goal as owner of Valencia CF is to do “networking.” Now we understand more about his nefarious management.’

As part of the same retort to Lim’s scathing interview, Salvo also insisted that the magnate’s ‘pride and arrogance’ stop him from from seeing the ‘basics’ of presiding over a club steeped in rich history.

Earlier this month, Valencia fans called on their former manager Gary Neville to ‘help them get rid’ of Lim and compared him to the Glazer family at Manchester United.
