Everton 1 Southampton 0: Richarlison scores in third straight game as Toffees close in on top four against Saints

EVERTON closed in on the top four with a 1-0 victory over Southampton at Goodison Park.

The Toffees have struggled at home of late, losing games against Fulham and Newcastle United.

But Richarlison’s early strike sent them on their way to the perfect result tonight.

The Brazilian gathered a ninth minute Gylfi Sigurdsson through ball before rounding Fraser Forster and smacking the ball into the empty net.

Everton then thought they’d doubled their lead 16 minutes later, only for Michael Keane’s effort to be ruled out by VAR.

But Saints struggled to threaten until late on, with Everton able to see out an important result.

The win takes Carlo Ancelotti’s side level on points with rivals Liverpool – and only two points off fourth with a game in hand.
