Jadon Sancho‘s imminent £73million move to Manchester United has been confirmed by Borussia Dortmund, who have been left furious by the low transfer fee and the player’s desire to leave.

The summer switch was first confirmed by the German giants in a statement to the stock market on Thursday morning, before CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke sat down in front of the press to further explain the situation.

At the unveiling of new manager Marco Rose, Watzke revealed that an agreement is in place, but that Dortmund were unhappy with the fee, given they were pushing for £107m following Sancho’s impressive season.

Dortmund became the first publicly-traded club in Germany back in 2000, meaning they are obligated to keep their shareholders up to date with goings-on at the club.

And it was via their announcement to the market at 10:29am BST on Thursday that the England man’s exit to Old Trafford was confirmed.

The statement, under the headline ‘Jadon Sancho close to move to Manchester United’, reads: ‘The player Jadon Sancho (“Player”) is close to move from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United Football Club Limited.

‘This is the today’s agreement of both clubs and the player in principle. Upon realisation of this transfer Manchester United will pay BVB a fixed transfer compensation in the amount of 85.0m EUR (£73.1m).’

The announcement then goes on to reveal that the deal is still subject to the 21-year-old completing a medical at United, stating: ‘The contractual details now have to be coordinated and completed.

‘Moreover, the formal processing of the transfer is still subject to the successful completion of all necessary medical tests and examinations, a coordination procedure with the player’s previous club and the proper and timely processing in accordance with the provisions of the FIFA Transfer Matching System (FIFA TMS).

‘With the realization of this transfer business, the management expects a positive effect on the key earnings figures (EBITDA, EBIT) for the 2021/2022 financial year in the amount of approx. 56.0m EUR (£48.2m).’
