Barcelona have reportedly held initial talks with representatives of Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero ahead of a possible free transfer this summer.

The Argentine, who is City’s all-time leading scorer with 258 goals, announced in March that he would be leaving the Etihad when his contract expires at the end of the season.

According to Sky Sports, Barca chiefs have been in touch with representatives of the 32-year-old over a move which could see him link up with international team-mate Lionel Messi.

Barca are said to be hopeful of convincing their captain to stay at the Nou Camp this summer and his presence would no doubt be a deciding factor in Aguero’s decision.

Should he make the move the move to the Catalans, the forward would be following in the footsteps of Diego Maradona, his former father-in-law.

Marardona spent two years at Barca between 1982 and 1984, winning the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa de la Liga.

Aguero has played in LaLiga before, spending five yeras with Atletico Madrid before his move to Manchester in 2011.

He has been linked with a number of European clubs including Chelsea, Inter Milan and Arsenal.

The striker is looking to end his final season at the Etihad by winning his and City’s first Champions League trophy.

Pep Guardiola’s side progressed to the final after recording a 4-1 aggregate victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the semis.

City beat Tottenham to win the Carabao Cup last month and could wrap up the Premier League title with a victory over Chelsea this weekend.
